- A root cellar is an option for storing your own food so that you don't have to make a mad dash to the store and fight over the last can of peaches.
Advantages to having a root cellar:
- You can store food all year round.
- It requires no electricity to keep food at an ideal temperature.
- It's a time tested method of preserving food---guess what our ancestors did, you know, back before fridges.
- They are versatile. Big, small, expensive, inexpensive...you get the idea.
- You will save gas $, by not having to run to the grocery store as frequently.
- You can choose the size according to your needs.

Disadvantages to having a root cellar:
- They require space...if you don't have any, you will not be able to utilize this option.
- There are a number of ways/types of cellars...each has its own individual pros and cons.
