This is the first time we have EVER taken our kids camping. My hubby and I have done some camping together but it was certainly a new experience taking the kids along.
I did learn a few things from this camp trip that I thought I'd share.
- Bluebell Flowers are not only edible but they taste like lettuce and are good!
- Babies who sleep great at home will sleep differently at camp. Mum and dad got very little sleep.
- Baby sleeping in a playpen was hit and miss. She did fine in it at home but out there she slept in mum's lap, in mum's sleeping bag and finally in the play pen at nap-time.
- Don't worry about bringing things to try and entertain your kids...they will entertain themselves. They weren't bored for even a minute. They found lots of fun things to do on the trip from throwing rocks in the river to casting a fishing rod for the first time...and watching a fish being cleaned later (we were happy that they were able to see this, yay for educational moments) to playing in the dirt.
- That kids sure get dirty outdoors...
- I learned to just relax, let the kids get dirty and have a fun time. We really made the most of our time out in the mountains.
- I learned...that I would do it again. It was seriously worth it! I'm glad that the kids were able to be outdoors, away from the tv, and having a fantastic time. They were able to learn new things out there that they simply wouldn't have had the opportunity to do at home. It was good to be able to practice a few prepping skills including cooking without an oven, target shooting with a slingshot, edible flower identification, fishing, water and fire safety, as well as to gain a better appreciation for the great outdoors.
