Teaching Children to Work
I'm working on this. As a parent it is hard, for me at least, to just hand your kids the reigns and get them working. I find myself worried about the work they will create for me as they are busy learning to work. But I do recognize the importance of teaching our kids to work especially living in the society that we do. Seems like kids today are given so much without having to so much as lift a finger.
As a parent, I am amazed at the things that kids really CAN do. They are so little but can do so much...if we just let them. Kids also LOVE to help out, they LOVE to please us and I can see the sense of accomplishment in their eyes as they are busy scrubbing the windows or sweeping the floors or washing the dishes by hand. My eldest child recently came to me and asked me what she could do to help because she wanted to do something.
Work is good for kids, so try not to shy away from letting them 'help' out. Think of what you are teaching them when you let them...and what you are teaching them when you don't.
